brexit and blogging
Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty. I'm
positive that some of you are wondering why I even have this blog; isn't
instagram enough? Normally, I'd be tempted to agree with you. I, Becca, am not
much of a blog person. It has been argued that I have neither the creativity
nor the emotional stability to be the author of an interesting and
understandable blog (I suppose we'll test that out over the
next several months).
The fact of the matter is this: it is a class requirement that I have a
travel blog. (Yes, I do have classes in London, and
yes, they do have actual assignments with actual grades and actual due dates.) The main purpose of this is to keep
everybody back home updated on my life in London and let my teachers know that
I'm actually paying attention to all the wonderful things that will be
happening to me across the globe! (...as if that would even be a
concern)
I'm actually fairly excited to see how this will go. I know a lot of you
probably won't ever read anything past these first couple posts and that's
okay! -but if you ever have a hankering to know what's happening with that girl
you knew in high school or roomed with in the BYU dorms or are randomly
following on Instagram, this would be the place to keep up with me!
So it may seem pretty obvious why I want to go to
London: travel, British accents, and fun!
...right?
Close. While those are all included, one of the main focuses of this study abroad is about London's cosmopolitan atmosphere and its ability to integrate all different kinds of people from all over the globe. We'll be studying the diversity of this city and how so many different people and cultures can coexist; we'll be studying London's rich and important history and how it has had an international impact; we'll be studying this pivotal time following Brexit and so much political upheaval all over the globe.
There are a lot of changes happening in our world, and I believe it's
incredibly important to see these changes from different perspectives- and,
when possible, from different countries and continents.
I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity I'll be having to live in
such a culturally diverse, historically rich, and politically intense society.
It's going to bring changes, but I can't wait to meet them head-on.
Bring it on, London.
